Old patio slabs lifted, stacked and taken away as hardcore — volume-priced from £150.
About this service
What patio slab removal bristol actually looks like.
Most Bristol garden revamps start with pulling up the old patio. Slabs are heavy (typical 600x600 concrete slabs are 35–40kg each), and any job of more than about a dozen needs a sack truck and some patience. I lift, stack, and load them for disposal as hardcore. If the slabs were laid on a mortar bed or concrete base, the mortar usually comes up too — it scraps as rubble. Volume-priced £150–£430. No VAT, no call-out fee.
Lifting without doing your back
Slabs lift cleanest with a flat bar at one corner to start, then hand-lift with knees bent. I trolley longer runs rather than carry. Indian sandstone is thinner than concrete but denser, so the weight per slab is similar. Most patio jobs clear in 2–3 hours of lifting for a 20m² patio — the load-out to the van is often the longer bit.
What’s underneath — and the hardcore question
Old patios sat on sand usually lift clean. Mortar-bedded slabs leave a crust of mortar stuck to the base — that scraps as hardcore. Poured concrete bases can stay (if you’re laying new patio over) or come out with a breaker. I’ll flag the footprint on arrival and price the extra if the base needs breaking up.

Waste is carried away under our UK registered waste carrier licence (CBDU445737), so items taken off your property go to a licensed facility rather than a side street.

Frequently asked
Patio Slab Removal Bristol— common questions.
How much does patio slab removal in Bristol cost?
Volume: a small patio under 15m² usually comes in at 2 yards (£150). Larger 20–30m² patios run 6–8 yards (£290–£370).
Can you break up a concrete base too?
Yes — flag it when you book so I bring the breaker. Rubble adds to volume so I’ll re-estimate on arrival.
Will you take the sand and soil underneath?
Sand yes; soil can come off if you want the ground lowered. Soil adds weight quickly so I’ll price it separately.
